War and conflict are affecting energy prices right across Europe. By reducing our energy use at work and home, we can limit our reliance on expensive, imported fossil fuels. The Public Sector can contribute in a major way. As part of the National Energy Security Framework (NESF), the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Office of Public Works (OPW) are working together to develop and deliver an energy efficiency campaign for public bodies to help reduce our collective energy use through behaviour change.
SEAI works with all public bodies to help them achieve their energy targets, currently 51% energy-related carbon emissions reduction and 50% energy efficiency improvement by 2030. This includes offering advice, financial support and reporting on progress to targets. The OPW runs the Optimising Power @ Work energy saving campaign with large energy users in Central Government and the wider public sector estate.
The Reduce Your Use campaign will consist of a programme of themed activities to roll out to staff to promote energy efficiency behaviour at work, at home and as we travel, to ultimately deliver energy savings. Running from September to March, we will promote monthly energy saving themes, such as running an energy awareness campaign, cutting energy bills at home, active travel, Christmas shutdown and other advice. Participating organisations will be supported with energy awareness resources, posters and collateral, advice, and live webinars. Awareness campaigns such as this can typically deliver 5 to 10% energy savings.
Organisations can progress to develop energy management to sustain and continually improve savings and will have the opportunity to do so with support from SEAI.
We urge and invite you to participate in this joint campaign by SEAI and the OPW. To express your interest in taking part email: publicsector@seai.ie
